    Hi Guys!

I have been offered a job in the Philippines (resort), though have never been there.
I am 31 yo, woman, have lived and worked in Thailand, Russia, Bulgaria before.
Could you, please, recommend a nice and safe place to stay in Manila first (1 day)?
As I would like to come and see before signing of the contract. By the way - is the Manila airport operating now? And how about the internal flights - from Manila to Puerto Gallera?
    Thank you all in advance!

    Hi !

Here is my advice. Others will have many different variations so you can choose the one that is best for you. I always stay at this hotel between flights and when in Manila. It is a middle of the road type place that feels like home to us. It is close to markets and restraunts and is very safe for foriegners. http://www.copasuites-manila.com/contactus.php The thing that I recommend is to pay a little extra and use the airport taxi to go to your hotel. I also recommend using the hotel taxi which has a set hourly rate. Foriegners are easy targets for freelance taxi drivers. Cebu Pacific is usually the most affordable internal airline and now has a nice new terminal. I had my wife purchase my internal ticket with them for the 12th and they emailed it to me so now I dont have to go to the ticketing office. I hope this is helpful to you.

    Thank you, Tom!

Looks very nice! How is the situation in Manila now? I watched the news about the storm, is it safe there now? How about Mindoro island? Will be very grateful to receive any news from the Philippines.

Actually I am in the process of getting rid of my belongings in the US so I can leave on the 9th to the Philippines. Last time I checked the airport was functional and when I called the hotel there was no problems. I found a report about Mindoro on this news site .http://www.gmanews.tv/story/169050/occ-mindoro-to-declare-state-of-calamity-due-to-rains It does not mention the airport being affected but the roads appear to be danaged.

    Mumulifa:
Manila should be OK for a visitor now (I'm in QC today) and the airport is open... The areas in Makati where most of the hotels are located was not flooded. Tom's hotel is OK... As he said, spend a little more on a reputable taxi.

Most people travel to Puerto Galera by ferry from Manila...about 2 hours. I don't think there are any flights. Look up Supercat's schedule here

    http://www.supercat.com.ph/sched.asp?route=25#dtn

and take a taxi from your hotel to the terminal in Batangas (Have the hotel arrange this... best way)

  8. As for hotels, you can check this out: http://www.lancastersuites-hotels.com/manila/ppc/?gclid=CKHJ0a6X4Z0CFSMNDQod60zRMw. I've stayed there. Very safe. It is walking distance to Shangrila EDSA, Shangrila Mall and SM Megamall on EDSA, and about 20-30 minutes by cab to Makati depending on traffic.

At the airport, just look or ask for Yellow Cab, they're a little more expensive but better and safer I think. The white cabs well, sometimes you get the good or the bad. Terminal 2 (PAL) or Terminal 3 (Cebu Pacific) are great. Terminal 1 can get stressful.

As for Puerto Galera, John has given you good advice. Yes, ask the hotel to arrange a ride for you to get to the ferry terminal. It's worth the extra expense. I surely hope your contacts will pick you up at the ferry terminal. Mmmm...you speak Russian? Russian tourists are starting to be all over the place now according to my sister who is in Boracay. Good luck.
