Finally a new podcast! Guest, John Grant

Yes, I know, it’s been some time since I have put up a new Podcast! But, today I have a new one to share with you, and my guest today is John Grant. John is a columnist here on the LiP Web Magazine, and I kind of played a little trick on him to get him over to my office today to participate in the Podcast! Just listen in and you’ll see what I am talking about!

Today’s topic is about being an expat in the Philippines, and having other friends who are foreigners. I hope you enjoy the show!

Domestic Travel in the Philippines

Domestic travel to different parts of the Philippines can be quite an adventure. Whether you will be flying, taking a boat, or riding on a tricycle or a “skylab” - you can bet it won’t be quite the same as what you are accustomed to! What’s a skylab, by the way? Well, it’s a motorcycle that has kind of a cross bar that people sit on too. Have a look at this to see what I am talking about.

Anyway, today’s Podcast is all about domestic travel in the Philippines. Dave Starr and I talk about some of our travel adventures, and also tips and tricks for domestic travel in the Philippines. Everything from Boat Travel to Car Rentals, we talk about it this week.

Middle Class in the Philippines

For today’s Podcast, Dave Starr and I will be talking about a variety of financial subjects related to living in the Philippines. Basically, we start off the conversation about the Middle Class in the Philippines and how we have seen it grow over the last 20 years or so, and believe me, it is growing!

In addition, we talk about how ex-pats can earn money while living here in the Philippines, and how such earning can be done in a very honest way, without ripping off anybody, or anything else like that. You hear a lot online that it is not possible for a foreigner to earn money living here in the Philippines, but I can say for certain that this is not true. Listen in and see what we have to say on the subject!

Let’s talk about AmericanLola’s Column

For today’s Podcast, I decided to talk about the most recent column from AmericanLola, “The Foreigner = Money Problem.” For this Podcast, I had a conversation with AmericanLola, and also with Dave Starr. The conversations brought some really interesting looks at the problem that AmericanLola told us about in her column.

Unfortunately, when I spoke to AmericanLola on Skype, we had a very bad connection.  AmericanLola did not have a headset and was using her built in mic and speakers on her PC, so this led to some echoes of my voice.  I hope that you don’t find it too distracting, but please remember, it is only for about 5 minutes and after speaking with AmericanLola, the echo is no longer there.

Enjoy the Podcast!

Banking in the Philippines

OK, I have set up a new home for Podcasts on the site, and all future Live in the Philippines podcasts will be found here in this area of the site! Since I published my first podcast in my regular column, I will leave it there, but will also add a duplicate copy here, so that for future reference, all podcasts can be found here.

Remember, this is just my first attempt at Podcasting, so it is not perfect by any means. But, it is not too bad, and future Podcasts will improve!

For today, our topic on the Podcast is banking in the Philippines, and I am joined in the discussion by my friend, Dave Starr.
